UNSIGNED SUNDAYS: FEATURED ARTIST : ANWAR “COMING BACK TO YOU”
“Initially, I just wanted to start a label and scout and guide talent…but sometimes you can be forced into doing what you never expected to be doing”
Anwar was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina and raised in the Richmond VA area. Growing up with a parent in the military, he was used to moving around a lot, so he held close to him what he felt was the constants in my life. Family & music. Obviously family never changes and music, well that’s always been an outlet from whatever had been going on in his life. While a student at Norfolk State University, Anwar decided that music was something he wanted to pursue not as an artist but as a CEO. The thought of owning a business in a field that he was passionate about was beyond just an idea, it’d be his ideal situation.
After graduating Anwar moved back home to Richmond, Virginia but could never seem to get anything but temp work. It was at that point he decided to move to Washington DC and look for work. While there Anwar was introduced to Yudu Gray III who had just started a recording studio called House Studio DC. Anwar began going there to learn about song writing and looking for talent for my label, and was ready to launch. Anwar quickly learned that not everybody is as “hungry” as they say they are and not everybody is as passionate as he was about music. Awar then decided to begin writing and recording material on his own while he looked for talent. Within two sessions he had amassed quite a few tracks. Those songs received instant support and with the encouragement of others it was decided that Anwar would not only play an active role on the business side, but to also take a more active role as an artist.
“My music is an extension of my life and the world as I see it nothing more nothing less. “
