Congratulations to Gabby Douglas!
Gabrielle “Gabby” Douglas also know as “the flying squirrel”is a 16 year old African American Olympic Gold Medalist from Virginia Beach.
Apart of the US Women’s Gymnastics team at the 2012 Summer Olympics, she brought home 2 gold medals in both the individual and team all-around competitions. With this medal she too becomes the 1st African-American woman to win the all-around gold medal for women’s gymnastics
Douglas finished strong with her energetic floor routine, and U.S. teammates Jordyn Wieber, McKayla Maroney and Kyla Ross jumped and cheered with excitement when she finished. Competing against Russia’s finest Viktoria Komova, Douglas finished with a score of 62.232, about three-tenths ahead.
“It kinda hasn’t sunk in yet, but it will though. A lot was going through my mind. I was just thinking that all the hard work had paid off. I was speechless, just shedding tears of joy and waving to the crowd.” – says Gabby
