Earlier this week Rashad Haughton shot down rumors of a new Aaliyah album, stating that he and his family were not supporting it! Well it looks like the show will still go on. Blackground Music owners Barry and Jomo Hankerson (Aaliayh’s Uncle and Cousin) have confirmed that there will be a new 16 song album, with contemporary artist featured. Drake and  Noah “40” Sheib are set  to produce the album, along with help from Timbaland and Missy.

This is what the Hankerson’s told Billboard:

“We didn’t want to make it a nostalgic project; we already did that with the I Care 4 U album. “The idea was to release new music for her diehard fans, and also reintroduce her music to a new generation that doesn’t really understand how much influence she has in the music that they’re listening to today.”

Our sentiments exactly.

During his OVO Feast Drake shared his excitement about being apart of this project.

For years there have been rumors that Canadian singer Keisha Chante would play Aaliyah in a biopic, although The Haughton’s have shut that down too. Check out Keisha’s latest photo shoot, this girl is a dead ringer Aaliyah and gets my vote to play her. 

 Another interesting fact about Keisha Chante is that she and Drake had a fling awhile ago, I’m sure the fact Drake is obsessed with Aaliyah and Keisha Chante looks so much like her played a huge part in his attraction!
