We all know someone that is incarcerated, whether it is a family member, significant other, or a friend of a friend. We have either have all made the trip to visit an inmate or heard the stories of others making that trip. But when is enough enough? Are you allowed to move on with your life? Do you feel guilty if the father of your child is incarcerated and you never take that child to visit their other parent? As I was scrolling through my TV guide one day I came across the show ‘Prison Wives’ on the Investigation Discovery channel. I thought to myself not another lame reality show to degrade (Black) women. Surprisingly they had women from all races and walks of life.  As I sat and watched I had to wonder about the mental stability of some of these women. How could you stay with a murderer? Child molester?  Rapist? Why didn’t you get a divorce? How could you not move on 10, 15, 20 years later? Why did you pen pal a convict and marry him while he was incarcerated? During the entire show I am thinking of how LOW these women’s esteem must really be. If this grown man’s MOTHER is not even visiting him and “doing the time” with him, why should I?!?
